Affordable, temporary housing for solid organ recipients, live donors, and those who support them.

We understand the process of organ transplants, which is why we offer temporary housing near Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple, TX for organ transplant recipients, live donors, and those who care for them. Our space is also available for former recipients or donors who at any point down the road have follow-up appointments or procedures. Family members, caregivers and other necessary support people are also welcome to stay in our facilities with patients.

Our eight suites provide a home away from home for transplant recipients, live donors, and those who support them.

Each Guest Suite Includes:

  • A double bed

  • A twin bed

  • A private bath with walk-in shower

  • Fresh linens and towels

  • A recliner

  • A television

  • A small refrigerator

  • Closet space / large storage area

Our Common Area Includes:

  • A fully-equipped kitchen

  • Designated shelf space in the refrigerator and pantry

  • Parking near the door

  • Complimentary access to laundry and cleaning supplies

  • Free wifi

  • A meditation room and a conference room

  • A treadmill

In most cases, one to three people from a family stay in a room. On a space-available basis, in some cases families may occupy more than one bedroom.
Patients and guests are free to come and go as they choose.

Eligibility

Patients who stay at Amy’s House usually fall into one of the following categories: prospective, current, or former solid organ transplant recipient; prospective, current, or former solid organ live donor; and those who support them (family, caregivers, and drivers). To stay at Amy’s House, caregivers, family members and vehicle drivers must be at least 16-years-old, have no known communicable diseases, pass a Covid-19 screening review, and consent to a background check.

Suggested Donations

Because Amy’s House is a nonprofit facility, every family who stays at Amy’s House is encouraged to make a donation to partially help with expenses. Our suggested donation is $50 per room per night. We realize that medical care during the transplant journey can be financially difficult. We work with the social workers and the families to find an affordable solution for their situation. Who can stay at Amy’s House?

Guests who stay at Amy’s House usually fall into one of the following categories:

  • Prospective, current, or former solid organ transplant recipients

  • Prospective, current, or former solid organ live donors

  • Those who support patients in either of the categories listed above, such as family, caregivers, and drivers

What age patients does Amy’s House accept?

Patients of any age may stay at Amy’s House, provided they have an adequate caregiver with them when needed. Amy’s House does not provide caregiving or nursing care.

Is Amy’s House a part of Baylor Scott & White Health?

No, Amy’s House currently operates as a service of Transplant Recipients International Organization, Central Texas Chapter, which is a Texas-registered organization and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization approved by the IRS. While not a formal part of Baylor Scott & White, Amy’s House works closely with the transplant team and other components of Baylor Scott & White. Amy’s House does not receive any operating funds from Baylor Scott & White.

What do we do about food while staying at Amy’s House?

Amy’s House does keep a stock of healthy snacks and other food for the families, but Guests are responsible for obtaining and preparing their own food, and for cleaning up after food preparation and after meals. Amy’s House provides a kitchen and a dining room that Guests may use. Grocery stores and restaurants are near Amy’s House by car, but are not within walking distance. Uber and Lyft services are available in the area.

What are the eligibility requirements to stay at Amy’s House as a family member, caregiver, or driver?

To stay at Amy’s House, caregivers, family members, and vehicle drivers must:

  • Be at least 16-years-old

  • Have no known communicable diseases

  • Pass a Covid-19 screening review

  • Consent to a background check

  • Complete a liability agreement

  • Follow the House rules

How affordable is Amy’s House?

Donations are encouraged to help with expenses of operating Amy’s House. Families who are able to do so often donate $50 per room-night. No other fees are charged to patients, caregivers, family members, or drivers who stay at Amy’s House. We work with social workers and the families to determine an affordable solution for their situation.

Is shuttle service provided between Amy’s House and Baylor Scott & White Medical Center?

Monday through Friday, the Baylor Scott, & White shuttle service will pick up and return patients, family members, and caregivers to and from Amy’s House. At least 20 minutes in advance on the day of service, calls to 254-724-2216 can be made to request the shuttle service. Uber and Lyft services are available in the area.
